His Story

In a faraway land, there is a place where ordinary occurrences are in itself extraordinary. But I suppose if that is the case, the peculiar ones would be somewhat mundane and a way of life. It was with this typical disinterested attitude of the happenings around him that a young man walked down Willowanampa Lane. It was as brightly lit as the eve of Christmas Night. But of course, the concept of Christmas itself is foreign to them. There, they call it the Bunitian festival. A festival where they express their delight in their deity, Denutia, for defeating the evil and treacherous magician Silmanda...or was it the other way around. It did not matter. It was the season of merriment.

As he continued his walk, he saw flying Lintels all in a triangular formation, busy minding their master’s business in preparation for tomorrow’s auspicious day. Rushing to finish up their tasks before the third comet of Kerlon passes the sky, for it is believed that it will bring good fortune to those who are prepared for its arrival. Oh,did I mention that Lintels are the maids of their kind?..Perhaps not. As for what their tasks were or why they were in a triangle, I could not tell, for I am not of that world. However, I can tell you that next to them, stood a two headed monkey performing a piece by the famous Zinkerfin composer. He stood at a corner, below a green spotlight which brought out his features , watched by his legion of fans. And if you are wondering by now if they have genders, the answer is yes. It is about the only thing similar between our world and their’s. Males are called Wuss while females are widely known as Wusses but that is only in some parts of their country. At other places, they do not bother themselves with such trivial matters. During that particular day, there were many other queer happenings of which I am too lazy to describe.

As the young man continued his walk, and as Lady Fortune allowed, he saw Kandrea on the opposite side of the crowded road. She was with another man. It has been such a long time since he saw her. At that instant, I frantically unearthed my journal from my pile of manuscripts, flipped back the pages, and found the date which he last saw her. The date read 8th day of the Rubindium month in the year of the Zellix. It was long indeed. This time though she had someone next to her. Her hands tightly entwined with his.

He then realized that there was an encircling blue aura which followed her wherever she went. How he failed to notice this in the first place baffled him, let alone me. For we all know how obvious to the naked eye is the Aura of Alastor is right? This told him one thing. It is in these lands that a betrothed obtains a certain glow of life. It is one of evolution’s greatest advancement- to prevent any heartbreaks before the marriage. To fully comprehend why evolution planned it this way, you must delve into their history books which are located at the Great Archives. Two days’ walk North of where Kendrea is facing, past the Valley of Valor and the Unknown Forest and a day’s ride on the Moogas. If you are planning a visit there, I propose you to go in spring, during which the people are more friendly.

Anyway, back to our young man, he was feeling a certain warmth in his heart. There was joy and there was gladness. It was one of unparalleled delight as he saw Kendrea’s smile of pure bliss when she conversed with the person next to her. He then decided to leave them to their own and continued his walk.

By now, he has already took 849 steps from where he started of. The next one landed him on the doorstep of a very unusual shop. Mr. Mervin’s House of Ordinary Things was what the sign read. Wanting to put some colour into his day, he braved himself and walked through an 11 feet glass door. There he stood for a few seconds, scanning the entire shop. The next thing I know, he was jumping and yelping in wide-eyed excitement. He held it in the palm of his hands. Delicate. Fragile. Like a little baby. It was uncertain what caught his eye, for it is with great regret that I tell you that I do not know what happened next as the image I received turned blurry and distorted. Alarms started blaring in my lookout point. I need not any indicators to tell me what went wrong. The inter-dimensional gyro which was three years young burst into flames. Not wanting to fix the hairline crack which emerged only two days ago as my account balance would not permit so proved to be decisive. This is the life of scientist on a budget. Forever in debt and ignored by society. I'm afraid I can’t tell you more now. Perhaps I shall when we meet. Till then, care to make a donation?
